Holiday Recipes

{and a draw winner. Scroll to the bottom of the post for details}

Its that time of year again. Time to break out those dog-eared, tried and true holiday recipes. Do you have a favourite? A dish you're "slightly famous" for? One of those fool-proof crowd pleasers?

Sharing recipes is a wonderful tradition. Recipe books or cards make great hostess gifts any time of year. We all have certain foods that have an amazing way of waking up memories of significant events and people of our past. Keep those memories alive!
  • Bring your hostess a batch of something tasty, tied up with a pretty bow and a recipe card on top.
  • Compile grandma's recipes in a mini album or rolodex and give copies to family members at Christmas or any occasion.
  • Do a baking and recipe card swap with friends.
  • Make a layout about your favourite recipe, including the recipe and photos of the finished dish and the recipe in progress.
  • Make a layout about someone else's recipe and why it's special to you.
  • Start a recipe circle journal, where each participant adds their recipe and forwards the journal on to the next person in the circle, eventually ending up with their own journal full of recipes and special notes from everyon else.

I'd love it if you shared one of your recipes here! If 10 or more people post recipe's I'll enter everyone's name in a draw for a grab bag of ribbon. Deadline is midnight, Sunday November 24.

I'm including a super easy one that never fails and never goes unfinished. Its a perfect potluck dish.

Fruit Dip
1 jar marshmallow cream topping

1 8oz tub spreadable cream cheese at room temperature (can be 'light' but not low- or no-fat)

fruit cut into bite sized pieces for dipping.

Mix the 2 ingredients together with a fork or spatula. It sometimes takes a minute to get going, but eventually will become completely smooth. Serve with fresh cut fruit. Apples, mango & strawberries are favourites in our house.

And the winner is...

Donna!

This is for the Hot Topic on tools from last week.
The draw was done by my assistant Todd, under the watchful eye of Chirpy the Cricut.

Be sure to post your recipe for your chance to win the next draw!

congrats Donna!!

yummy recipe Sandra...I just started Christmas and gift baking today (it's easier when the kids are at school and dont know so I can freeze it and hope they dont eat it all before I need it!)

I'll share an easy recipe I use for gift giving and for Christmas at our house...

ALMOND ROCA
1 box unsalted soda crackers (saltines)
1 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 to 1 1/2 bags milk chocolate chips
2 bags almonds, finely flaked

Cover a small to medium cookie sheet with foil, being careful to tuck smooth in corners. Spray this with non-stick cooking spray. Line the entire sheet with crackers, breaking off to fit when necessary. *note -- you won't end up using a whole box.

Melt butter and sugar together over low heat; boil for three minutes and pour over cracker layer. Bake for five minutes at 350. **Do not overcook**

Remove from oven and sprinkle with the chocolate chips, quickly spreading it smooth. Sprinkle with almond flakes and lightly press down all over with a fork so the almonds stick well.

Freeze for an hour or until very firm. Remove the foil and break into small pieces. Store in an airtight container in fridge or freezer.

Cant wait to see all the recipes everyone shares. I love to try new ones and add to my collection.

Yay Donna!!

Here's my recipe:

BRUSCHETTA

2 cans Italian seasoned tomato paste (the little ones)

1 large fresh tomato

Handful of chopped green onions

Handful of chopped cilantro – careful – it’s potent!

About 1tsp of dried basil

About 1Tbsp of fresh lemon or lime juice – just for fun – it’s optional

Salt and pepper to taste

*best it you let it sit for a while before serving – overnight would be good

That’s it. Spread it on French bread and top with cheese and bake. I think I put mine in for about 15minutes at 375 then broil for a couple of minutes to brown the top.

This is a crowd pleaser and the easiest recipe I have.

Chinese Cookies
1 bag chocolate chips
1 bag butterscotch or PB chips
1 small can of chinese noodles
3 handfuls cocktail peanuts

melt together both chips. Stir in the noodles and peanuts. Drop on non-stick cookie sheet. Refrigerate approx. 20 mins. Done. You can't just eat one
